Flute Lessons at Blue Frog School of Music
– Ages 8 & Up

At Blue Frog School of Music in Oak Hill, Austin, we offer flute lessons for students ages 8 and up, with a focus on building musical fundamentals in a supportive, structured, and motivational environment. Whether you’re just starting out or developing early technique, our lessons are ideal for beginners and early intermediate players.

For our youngest students (ages 8–10), a parent or guardian must be present during lessons to help ensure focus, comfort, and a positive learning experience.

What You’ll Learn

Students will develop both technical skills and musicality, with an emphasis on:

  • How to hold and care for your flute
  • Breath control, tone development, and posture
  • Reading sheet music and rhythmic accuracy
  • Playing simple melodies and full pieces
  • Expressing musical phrasing and dynamics
  • Building confidence and musical discipline

Our Teaching Style

Flute instruction at Blue Frog is supportive, structured, and motivational. We work best with students who are genuinely interested in learning and ready to engage. Lessons are personalized and paced to support steady growth while building enjoyment and self-discipline.

Lesson Structure

  • Recommended: 45-minute weekly lessons (preferred for focus and progress)
  • Optional: 30-minute sessions for young beginners with shorter attention spans
  • Structured lesson plans tailored to each student’s level and pace

Practice, Perform, and Shine

Regular attendance and practice are essential for musical growth. We encourage students to commit to consistent lessons and participate in our biannual recitals. These performances offer a valuable opportunity to showcase progress, boost confidence, and share music in a supportive, low-pressure setting. Participation is tailored to each student’s comfort level and stage of development, ensuring everyone can shine.

[Note: while performing is participatory, attendance is not].
