Age & Readiness:

Bass guitars are physically bigger instruments—even short-scale models.

For most kids, age 7–8 is the sweet spot for hand size, coordination, and stamina. Six-year-olds are often not ready, but we’ll consider exceptional cases after a trial lesson assessment.

Bring Your Own Instrument (required)

Students must own a playable instrument and bring it to every lesson.
We keep a few spares for emergencies/variety, but consistent progress requires your own bass at home for daily practice. Not sure what to buy? Use the trial lesson to get sizing and gear recommendations (short-scale basses, strap height, string gauge, setup, amp/cable basics).

Who It’s For

  • Kids (age 7+) – With focus and guidance, young learners can build strong foundations.
  • Teens – Perfect for those interested in joining a band, writing music, or improving technique.
  • Adults – Learn to groove, jam, and enjoy music with clarity and creativity, learn more about our adult lessons.

We aim to support a variety of learning styles. While our instructors are not specifically trained in special education techniques, we are happy to discuss your student’s needs during a trial lesson to ensure the best possible learning environment. If another approach may better serve the student, we’re happy to recommend other resources.

Teaching Style

Our bass instructor blends technical skill-building with creative application, making lessons ideal for students who want to combine focused practice with musical exploration. Lessons are flexible, structured, and goal-oriented to help students build both competence and confidence.

Practice, Perform, and Shine

Regular attendance and practice are essential for musical growth. We encourage students to commit to consistent lessons and participate in our biannual recitals. These performances offer a valuable opportunity to showcase progress, boost confidence, and share music in a supportive, low-pressure setting. Participation is tailored to each student’s comfort level and stage of development, ensuring everyone can shine.

[Note: while performing is participatory, attendance is not].
